Claude Max 5x and 20x without a card

Claude Max is the largest personal Claude plan, and the one most likely to fail at checkout. The charge is five or ten times a Pro charge, so card issuers and fraud filters look at it harder. This guide explains what Max 5x and Max 20x give you, why a card that pays for Pro can still be refused for Max, what to try for free, and how to get Max on your own account through an official gift when no card of yours will go through.

Claude Max vs Pro: what you actually pay for

Anthropic sells Max in two sizes and describes them only as multiples of Pro: “Max 5x includes five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance” and “Max 20x includes 20 times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance.” Sessions reset every five hours, and Max plans also have a weekly limit across all models. Anthropic does not publish fixed message counts and says it may limit usage in other ways at its discretion, so treat any exact number you read elsewhere as a guess.

In the U.S. the list prices are $100 a month for Max 5x and $200 a month for Max 20x, against $20 for Pro. Those prices are before tax: Anthropic notes that prices shown don't include applicable tax, so your real charge depends on where you are. Pick by how often you hit the Pro limit. If you run out a few times a week, Max 5x is usually enough. If you work in Claude for most of the day, or use Claude Code heavily, Max 20x is the one people choose. Everything else is the same Claude account.

What to try first

1. Open your bank app and check the limits for online and international payments. Raise them, or ask the bank to, and switch on international online use if it is off.
2. Make sure 3D Secure works: notifications on, the bank app signed in, your phone number current. Approve the request as soon as it appears.
3. Retype the billing address exactly as the bank has it, including accents and the street spelling.
4. Call the bank before you retry and tell them you are about to pay Anthropic $100 or $200. One retry after that call is better than five in a row, which can look like fraud to both sides.
5. Try a credit card instead of a debit card, or a card from another bank. If only a Pro charge goes through, start with Pro and try the upgrade later from the same account.

Buy Claude Max without a credit card: the gift route

Anthropic sells official gift subscriptions for Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x, for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, sent by email or as a shareable link. Its help centre says “Gift subscriptions are available globally.” Only someone who already has Pro or Max can buy one, and that is the part we handle: we buy the gift with our own card and email you the gift link. You redeem it on your own Claude account. You never give us a password, and our card is never attached to your account. You pay us in crypto, for example USDT.

Delivery is usually within 2 hours of payment confirmation, between 09:00 and 21:00 UTC, and at most 24 hours. If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer.

Check the gift rules before you order. Gifts don't stack. If you pay for Claude through the iOS or Android app, let that subscription end before you redeem.
