A Claude gift subscription is a prepaid Claude Pro or Claude Max plan that one person buys and another person redeems on their own account. Anthropic added gifts to the Claude apps, and they are now the cleanest way to get a paid Claude plan onto an account whose owner can't pay with their own card. This guide covers what a gift contains, the rules that catch people out, how redemption works, and how we use gifts to pay for Claude for you.
What a Claude gift is
Anthropic's purchase page lists three plans and four terms:
- Plans: Claude Pro, Claude Max 5x and Claude Max 20x.
- Terms: 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
- Delivery: by email, straight to the recipient's inbox with a redeem button and an optional message, or as a shareable link the buyer can pass on any way they like.
- Where: "Gift subscriptions are available globally." In practice the recipient still needs a Claude account in a country where Claude is offered (see anthropic.com/supported-countries).
- Payment on the recipient's side: none. The recipient does not add a card to redeem a gift.
Max 5x and Max 20x cost five and ten times as much as Pro. Anthropic's U.S. list prices exclude tax ("Prices shown don't include applicable tax"); the gift checkout shows the buyer the exact amount, including any tax for their location. - Open the gift email and press the redeem button, or open the gift link you were sent.
- Sign in to Claude, or create an account if you don't have one. Use the account you want the plan on.
- Confirm the redemption. The plan starts on your account.
- If you have a code instead of a link, go to claude.ai/gift/redeem and enter it.
What happens next depends on what you already have. According to Anthropic's redemption page: a free or new account moves straight to the gifted plan; a Pro subscriber who gets a Pro gift has the subscription extended; a Pro subscriber who gets a Max gift is moved up to Max for the gift period, with unused Pro time turned into credit; a Max subscriber who gets a lower plan receives the gift as credit on future invoices.
Buying one yourself
If you or a friend are on Claude Pro or Max and the card works, buying directly from Anthropic is the cheapest route and needs no one else:
- Sign in to Claude, click your initials in the lower left, choose Gift Claude (or open claude.ai/gift).
- Pick the plan and the term, a card colour and an optional message.
- Choose email delivery or a shareable link, then pay.
The gift checkout uses the same card rules as any Claude purchase: credit or debit card, billing address in a supported country, address matching what your bank holds. If the card is refused there, see Claude says "Your card was declined" for the causes and the free fixes.
How we use gifts to pay for you
When your own card won't go through and nobody you know can buy the gift, we buy it. You pay us in crypto; we buy an official Claude gift with our card and email you the link. You redeem it on your own account, so we never see your password, your chats or your settings, and our card is never attached to your account.
- Choose the plan and term on the plans page and give the email the gift should go to.
- Pay the exact amount shown in USDT, BTC or another coin. The amount is fixed for 30 minutes. Details on paying in crypto.
- Once your payment confirms, we buy the gift. Usually within 2 hours of payment confirmation, 09:00–21:00 UTC; at most 24 hours.
- You get the gift link by email and redeem it as described above.
Our guarantee, in full: "If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer." Before you order, check two things: Claude is offered in your country (we don't serve Russia, Belarus, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria or Venezuela), and you have no active Claude subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play.

Can I buy a Claude gift subscription for myself?
Yes, if you are already on Claude Pro or Max and your card works. Free users and Team or Enterprise members can't buy gifts. If your card is the problem, the gift checkout will refuse it too, so you need someone else to buy it.
How long is a Claude gift valid?
The gift expires 365 days after the purchase date. Redeem it within that year; an unredeemed gift is lost.
Can I redeem two Claude gifts at once?
No. Anthropic does not allow stacking or redeeming several gifts at the same time. Redeem one and keep the other for later, within its 365 days.
I pay for Claude through the iPhone app. Can I use a gift?
Not while that subscription is active. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings, wait for the paid period to end, then redeem the gift on the web.
Do you need my Claude password to send a gift?
No. We buy the gift and email you the link. You redeem it yourself on your own account.
