Claude gift and an App Store or Google Play subscription: how to switch so you can redeem it
You have a Claude gift link, but your current Pro or Max plan was bought inside the Claude app on an iPhone or Android phone. In that case the gift can't be redeemed yet. This is not an error you can fix on the gift side: Anthropic requires the app-store subscription to end first. Below is what the rule says, how to cancel the subscription on iPhone and Android, and what to do on the day it ends.
What Anthropic says
Anthropic's help page "How to redeem a Claude gift subscription" is direct about it: "If you have an active subscription through the iOS App Store or Google Play Store, you'll need to wait until that subscription ends before you can redeem a gift subscription. Gift subscriptions can only be redeemed on the web."
The gifting page repeats it: "Recipients with active mobile (iOS or Android) subscriptions will need to wait until their mobile subscription ends before redeeming."
The reason is billing. A plan bought in the app is charged and renewed by Apple or Google, not by Anthropic, so Anthropic can't extend or replace it with a gift. A plan bought on claude.ai works differently: a Pro gift added to a web Pro plan simply extends it.
Two more rules from the same page: you can't redeem several gifts at once or stack them, and "Your gift won't expire while you wait—you can redeem it once your mobile subscription ends."
Claude Pro as a gift
You pay in crypto, we buy an official Claude gift and email you the link. No password. Refund if we can't buy it (minus the network fee).
OrderFirst, check which billing you have
If you are not sure where you subscribed:
- Open Claude, go to Settings and look at the billing section. A web plan shows the card and invoices there; an app plan is managed by the store.
- On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If Claude is listed as active, you pay through the App Store.
- On Android, open your subscriptions in Google Play. If Claude is listed as active, you pay through Google Play.
If Claude is not in either store list and you still can't redeem, the gift itself is the likely problem: it may have expired, or another gift is still running. Our Claude gift subscription guide covers those cases.
Cancel the Claude subscription on iPhone or iPad
These are Apple's steps from "Cancel a subscription from Apple" (support.apple.com/en-us/118428):
- In Settings, tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription (Claude).
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You might need to scroll down to find it.
Apple adds: "If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled." The same page has steps for Mac, the web and other devices if you subscribed elsewhere with the same Apple Account.
Cancel the Claude subscription on Android
Google's steps from "Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play" (support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481):
- On your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play. In most current versions: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Claude.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions.
Make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that holds the subscription. Google also warns: "When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel." Cancel in the store on iPhone as well; deleting the app is not the way to stop a subscription.
What happens after you cancel
Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not end your plan on the spot. Google says: "When you cancel a subscription you'll still be able to use your subscription for the time you've already paid." On iPhone, a cancelled subscription shows an expiration message with its end date in most current versions. You keep Pro or Max until that date, so you don't lose days you paid for.
On or after the end date:
- Check that Claude is no longer listed as active in the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the gift email or link on a computer or in a phone browser, or go to claude.ai/gift/redeem.
- Sign in with the same account you used in the app (same email, or the same Apple or Google sign-in).
- Confirm the redemption. No card is needed.
Your chats and projects stay on the account. From then on, the plan is billed on the web, and future gifts can extend it without this wait.
If the app plan renews in a few days, cancel now and redeem when it ends. If it has most of a month left, you lose nothing by waiting: the gift won't expire in the meantime, according to Anthropic.
Getting a gift if nobody can buy you one
Gifts are bought by Pro or Max users. If you have no one to ask, or your own card is refused (see Claude card declined), we can buy the gift. You pay us in crypto, we buy an official Claude gift subscription and email you the link. You redeem it on your own account. We never need your password, and our card is never attached to your account.
- Claude Pro, 1 month: total $23.00. Claude Pro, 12 months: $276.00. Claude Max 5x, 1 month: $115.00. Other terms are on the plans page.
- Delivery: usually within 2 hours of payment confirmation, 09:00–21:00 UTC; at most 24 hours.
- "If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer."
The App Store or Google Play rule applies to our gifts too: cancel the app subscription before you order, and redeem after it ends. Order Claude Pro for 1 month, Claude Pro for 12 months or Claude Max 5x. Coins and networks are on paying in crypto.

OrderQuestions
Why can't I redeem my Claude gift?
If your Claude plan is billed through the iOS App Store or Google Play, Anthropic says you have to wait until that subscription ends. Gifts are redeemed on the web only. Other reasons: the gift has expired, or you are trying to redeem a second gift while one is still running.
Will my gift expire while I wait for the app subscription to end?
Anthropic says the gift won't expire while you wait and can be redeemed once your mobile subscription ends. Keep the gift email or link safe until then.
Does deleting the Claude app cancel my subscription?
No. Google says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. On iPhone, too, cancel it in the subscriptions list rather than relying on deleting the app.
Do I lose my chats when the app subscription ends?
No. Your account stays the same; only the plan changes. Redeem the gift while signed in to the same account and your chats and projects are still there.
